What a lot of people don’t realize is that they’re trying to treat a symptom of the problem without getting to the actual problem.
What the heck does that even mean?
If you go to the doctor because your leg hurts and all he does is give you pain medication without figuring out why it hurts in the first place, you could be walking around on a broken leg without even knowing it.
The pain education will help in the short term, but you’ll actually cause more damage because you’ll still be walking around on it.
This is what it’s like to try to grow in any area of your life without awareness. Awareness is something that as a whole society is lacking.
We’ve gotta stop treating the symptoms and start getting directly to the problem.
In today’s post I share the what, the why, and the how of awareness.
Let’s get to it!
You can’t grow from or change something you’re not aware of
Without awareness, nothing can change.
If you’re not aware of the fact that you’re self sabotaging your attempts to get healthier, you can’t address it or change it.
If you’re not aware that there’s a hole in the bucket, you’re not going to be able to fix it.
Because we’re human, so many of us are walking around with leaking buckets because we don’t even know how to, or want to, fix the hole.
But once you become aware of the hole in the bucket, you can work on fixing it.
The hole in the bucket can mean a lot of different things.
Maybe it’s a limiting belief that’s holding you back.
Maybe it’s a toxic relationship.
It could be self sabotage.
Maybe it’s an unhealthy coping mechanism.
It’s potentially a job that you hate.
Whatever the hole in the bucket is for you, becoming aware of it is SO important and incredibly powerful.

Once you become aware, your excuses begin to drift away
If you’re feeling resistance to the idea of awareness, you’re not alone. A lot of people, myself included, resist awareness because it means that you can no longer hide behind excuses.
Once you rid yourself of excuses, it means that you have to do the work. And I get it, the work isn’t always comfortable. It isn’t always fun. Heck, it’s very rarely fun.
But it is always ALWAYS worth it.
Because we’re human, we’d rather fight for our excuses than fight through the work it takes to heal from what we’ve become aware of. I did that for a really long time. Honestly, I find myself doing this even now. Everyone does.
Feeling resistant and letting yourself list off the excuses is ok. What’s not ok is living in that space of resistance.
You have to learn how to call yourself on your own crap in order to move forward. You have to be able to recognize when you’re making excuses and tell yourself that you’re going to do it anyway.
It’s easier said than done, but once you do this you’ll find that you’re making more progress towards your goals than you ever thought possible. And chances are you’ll find that it’s really not as hard as you thought it was going to be . The hardest part of every venture is that first step. It’s deciding to move forward and then actually doing it.
It doesn’t mean that the rest of it will be easy, but once you take that first step and gain momentum, you’ll have more and more strength to keep going.
With awareness comes power
“With great power comes great responsibility.”
This famous saying from Uncle Ben is what inspired Peter Parker to take that bold step and become Spiderman.
But what a lot of people don’t talk about is how we get that power. We think that the heavens will open up and bestow it upon us or we’ll get bit by some radioactive spider.
What we don’t realize is that while those things are fun to think about, the first step to getting power is to become aware.
Once you become aware of what’s going on, you gain your power back. When you’re unaware, life is happening to you and you’re just going with the flow. You’re not taking active steps to live the life that you so desperately want.
But when you become aware, oooh girl, that’s when the real fun begins.
That’s when you’re able to put on your proverbial suit and take on the world and live the life of your dreams.
That doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. You’re going to come across villains trying to take you out and haters who want to take you down. But because of the power you’ve found, you’re able to keep going. You’re going to be able to keep fighting because you KNOW deep down in your soul that there’s something amazing on the other side.
Becoming aware isn’t easy. It’s hard, it’s painful, it’s humbling. But once you finally do it, it’s worth it. And it’s something worth celebrating! I’m proud of you.
I’m proud of you because by reading this post you’re telling yourself that you know that you deserve more. That’s incredibly powerful. And that’s power that you deserve.
Once you become aware, you can begin to find the problem, you’ll kill all your excuses, and you’ll gain so much more power than you ever thought possible.
Boo, you deserve this.
